My life’s trajectory changed after living and teaching English on the small pacific island of Saipan (slide show above). Saipan’s delicate island ecosystem and beautiful coral reefs showcased the alarming effects of colonization, war, exploitation, urbanization, and careless environmental management. I suddenly knew I could no longer act as a bystander but had to actively engage in environmental conservation.
