The NAGY Lab
We are a research lab within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences (PBS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, directed by Dr. Gabriela Nagy. Our team is dedicated to investigating the fundamental factors that impact mental health. We work to improve overall well-being through collaborative partnerships with both community organizations and academic institutions. Our research aims to develop effective interventions and approaches that can benefit individuals across various populations and contexts. Our work is grounded in the scientific premise that a complex combination of factors, including the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, can have significant impacts on the well-being of different communities. These factors, known as social drivers of health, can create challenges that adversely affect physical and mental health outcomes over time. We believe that understanding and addressing these social determinants of health are essential to promote better health outcomes.

Mission & Vision
We strive to be the leading academic research group dedicated to improving health outcomes for populations that have historically faced significant mental health challenges and barriers to care. Our work focuses on developing and implementing equitable, high-quality mental health care and culturally-, linguistically-, and contextually-relevant interventions for all. We understand that social drivers of health, such as discrimination, migration stress, and limited access to resources, play a significant role in worsening mental health inequities. By addressing these factors, we aim to improve mental health outcomes and ensure access to care across contexts and populations with distinct, demonstrated needs.
Commitment to Inclusive Excellence in Mental Health Research and Practice
We are dedicated to improving mental health care access across communities while fostering a mental health workforce that is well-equipped and well-rounded to meet the increasing demand for mental health services. We center strategic community and academic partnerships to address the factors contributing to a range of mental health challenges in the communities we serve. We believe mental health care is a basic human right and are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to high-quality, culturally-, linguistically, contextually-relevant care.
