Research

My research concerns the sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy of carbonate rocks. While at UWM, I have focused my research on three topics: (1) the Lower Silurian of eastern Wisconsin, (2) Upper Ordovician-Lower Silurian sedimentary facies and sequences of the Great Basin (Utah and Nevada) and their relation to faunal communities with Peter Sheehan (Milwaukee Public Museum), and (3) the facies, sequences and communities of the Middle Ordovician-Lower Silurian Estonia with Leo Ainsaar (Tartu University), Linda Hints (Institute of Geology, Tallinn), Peep Mannik (Institute of Geoogy, Tallinn), Jaak Nolvak (Institute of Geology, Tallinn), and Madis Rubel (Tartu University). I have also worked on the Cutoff Formation (Permian) of west Texas, and the reef and foreslope of the Latemar Buildup (Triassic) of the Dolomites, northern Italy.  Finally, I worked on developing learning-centered courses within geosciences.
