Hiroko Yamada
Juror Statement
I only had the opportunity to view the art work images to select those which I not only enjoyed, but I had to also rely on my imagination for the thought process behind the artist’s imagination as well. There was a lot of thought that went into this juried process.
My evaluation took into consideration a couple of key elements. What would be the challenge for the creation of the work living in this new world? When communicating through art work, also imagining what would be the artist’s thoughts and ideas in the process of creation.
I wanted to make sure that the student conveyed a clear message of understanding the materials they were working with, in addition to applying their creativity and ideas into the work, while making an effort to complete the work within their skill level.
