2. Tips to use Artificial Intelligence

2.1.  Siri

Siri is the intelligent assistant built into iPhone to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks. With the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, Siri is more natural, more contextually relevant, and more personal to the users.

2.1.1. Activate Siri
    • Activate Siri with your voice
      • Say “Siri’ or “Hey Siri”, then ask a question or make a request.
    • Activate Siri with a button (2 steps)
      • Step 1: Do one of the following:
        • On an iPhone with Face ID: Press and hold the side button.
        • On an iPhone with a Home button: Press and hold the Home button.
        • With EarPods: Press and hold the center or call button.
      • Step 2: Ask a question or make a request.
2.1.2. Type to Siri
    • Turn on Type to Siri
      • Double-tap the bottom of the screen, then enter your request.
    • Turn off Type to Siri (3 steps)
      • Step 1. Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri
      • Step 2. Tap Talk & Type to Siri
      • Step 3. Turn off Type to Siri
2.1.3. Make requests to Siri that maintain context

Step 1. Activate Siri, then make a request.
Step 2. Immediately after you make the request, make another one.

2.1.4. Set up ChatGPT (3 steps)

Step 1. Go to Settings, then tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
Step 2. Tap ChatGPT, then tap Set up.
Step 3. Do one of the following:

    • Use ChatGPT without an account
      • Tap Enable ChatGPT
    • Use ChatGPT with an existing account
      • Tap Use ChatGPT with an Account, then follow the onscreen instructions.
2.1.5. Use Siri to get answers from ChatGPT (iOS 18.2 or later)

Activate Siri and say or type something like the below:

    • Hey Siri, ask ChatGPT to open the Library of Congress webpage.
    • Hey Siri, ask ChatGPT to summarize this document for me with a document – like a PDF of a lease agreement – open in the Files app.
    • Hey Siri, ask ChatGPT for some ideas on how to find items related to the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
2.1.6. Turn ChatGPT off (2 steps)

Step 1. Go to Settings, then tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
Step 2. Tap ChatGPT, then turn the ChatGPT extension off.

2.2.  Google Assistant/ Google Gemini

Google Assistant is a virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence, developed by Google, designed to provide personalized assistance and perform tasks through natural language interactions. It can answer questions, set reminders, control smart home devices, send messages, make calls, play music, provide directions, and more, across a range of devices like smartphones, smart speakers, smart displays, and Android Auto.

Google Gemini brings a transformative approach to accessibility for BVI users by leveraging its multimodal capabilities, including text, images, and more. Gemini enhances user interaction through features like voice-activated control and seamless navigation of hidden UI elements. These innovations have the potential to revolutionize how blind users engage with mobile/ desktop applications, and to offer a more intuitive and efficient experience.

2.2.1. Activate Google Assistant
    • Activate Google Assistant with your voice
      • Say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google”, then ask a question.
    • On your device, touch and hold the Home button
2.2.2. Activate Google Gemini
    • Activate Google Gemini with your voice
      • Say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google”, then ask a question.
    • Activate Google Gemini app
    • Activate Gemini by touch (such as Press and hold the power button; Touch and hold Home; Swipe up from the bottom corner of your screen).
2.2.3. Google Assistant can do
    • Ask questions (Find local information)
    • Communicate (Make calls; Send texts)
    • Plan your day (Schedule Calendars; Alarms; Timers)
    • Play multimedia (Media; Video)
    • Ask Google (Dictionary; Game updates; Search; Translations; Image search; Web answer)
    • Have fun (Entertainment ex., Games)
2.2.4. Google Gemini can do
    • Communicate (An open-ended topic through back-and-forth conversation)
    • Ask questions about your surroundings (Tap Camera, take a photo, and ask questions about it)
    • Get help (Writing, Correcting grammar, and Translating)
    • Get inspiration (Activities; Trips)
    • Summarize (A topic in any format, ex., a list, table, or chart)
    • Use voice to take quick actions (Sending a message or Turning on your lights)
2.2.5. Switch Google Gemini to Google Assistant
    • If users switch to using Gemini through any of these methods, Gemini will replace Google Assistant as the primary assistant on their device. Users can then get quick access to Gemini using “Hey Google” (if enabled) and touch methods that they previously used to access Google Assistant.
    • Gemini will not replace Google Assistant on users’ other devices, even if users switch to use it as their mobile assistant. If users previously chose not to try Gemini, they could revisit this choice later to switch to Gemini.
2.2.6. Google Assistant features in Gemini mobile app

On Android, Gemini mobile app gets help from Google Assistant for some familiar quick voice action features. Users can also talk to Gemini with “Hey Google” & Voice Match, powered by Google Assistant. On some devices, users can also complete certain tasks, like answering a call or snoozing an alarm, with quick phrases that allow them to skip saying “Hey Google.”

Gemini is still learning, so Google Assistant will help power some familiar quick voice action features, depending on the settings. This includes prompts like when asking it to:

    • Read incoming messages.
    • Control your lights, home security, and other smart home devices.
    • Broadcast messages on connected devices in your home.
    • Find out what song is playing.

To change these settings:

    • Open the Gemini app> At the top, tap Profile picture or initial and then Settings and then> Google Assistant features in Gemini> Choose the setting that want to change.
2.2.7. Some features & services of Google Assistant are not supported in Gemini
    • Media service providers: Podcasts, news and radio stations, and third-party music providers aren’t currently supported in Gemini.
    • Interpreter mode: Switch to Google Assistant to use Interpreter mode.
