Welcome to the Mathematics Discourse in Secondary Classrooms (MDISC) companion site. The purpose of this site is to support facilitators who are using the MDISC professional development materials as you explore the materials and implement them with teacher learners.

On this site, you will find updates and supplemental activities for the materials, a forum to interact with the authors and other facilitators, and additional resources to support your implementation.  We anticipate adding more resources over time to this site.

MDISC is a collaboration between mathematics educators at Michigan State University, the University of Delaware, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to create professional development materials for secondary mathematics teachers. Because there is evidence that having students articulate their ideas, explain their reasoning, and engage in mathematical discussions improves students’ opportunities to learn, the MDISC materials focus on mathematics discourse–that is, the ways in which communication and meaning-making occur in the classroom.

The MDISC materials are published by Math Solutions and was developed by a grant from the National Science Foundation.  The grant that developed these materials was administered by Principal Investigator Beth Herbel-Eisenmann at Michigan State University and co-Principal Investigators Michelle Cirillo at the University of Delaware and Michael D. Steele at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  This site is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The materials, views, and resources found here may not necessarily represent the views of the National Science Foundation.
