Diane Amour, Coordinator, American Indian Student Services served as the 2013-14 Chair, Linda Huang, Administrative Program Manager, was Chair from 2014-2015, Dao Vang, Coordinator, Southeast Asian-American Student Services chaired the MCN during 2015-2016, and Gary Cooper-Sperber, Academic Advisor, African American Student Academic Services during the 2016-2017 year. Since its inception in 2006, the collective mission of MCN is to serve as a visible and active structure that embodies UWM’s commitment to inclusion and student success.
All of our programs and events promote a positive, productive, hospitable, safe, and caring environment conducive to learning at UW-Milwaukee. The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (formally the Office of Global Inclusion and Engagement) provided staff support, but the chair rotated. Typically, individuals volunteer to serve in this capacity. In August 2017, Gabriela Dorantes, Academic Advisor for the Roberto Hernández Center, became chair. During Gabriela’s term, MCN adopted the co-chair model, and individuals typically volunteer to serve in this capacity. Gabriela was succeeded by several other members that have been intramental in leading the network in its mission to provide specialized support for multicultural students here at UWM.
