“Insects, worms, and other small animals that carry out vital functions for life on earth have declined by 45 percent average over 35 years, threatening human, water quality and food supplies…”

Emulating the organic shape of the beehive as well as the geometric shape of the hexagon, while providing shelter in the form of six triangular biomes and an angular garden.

Showcasing a modern yet natural design by incorporating the geometric shape and plant materials.

  1. Inspiration for shape strikes in the form of bathroom tiles.
  2. Originally going to be much larger – lack of time and resources has left this idea to only live its reality in between sketchbook pages, hexagonal shape is seen throughout.
  3. Planning of interior / more greenery was to be included in the original, however bamboo gives a cleaner aesthetic and proves more practical.
  4. Using a system of gluing & clamping the first hexagon is made. Three more to go, luon backing to be added. The cut of the wood makes it so they do not all line up correctly. possible fixes: wood filler? cover up problems? staple gun?
  5. Backing is added, solution for wood not fitting together proves to be a combination of staple gun and wood filler as bamboo used to cover up issues.
  6. It has been a journey of mistakes piled up to make one big good looking mistake. Could not have done it without the help of RAY CHI and JOE and LOTS OF EXPRESSO.
