Mentorship

Dr. Kodak’s Training and Mentorship Philosophy

My mentoring style is similar to a junior-colleague training model. That is, I provide opportunities for my advisees to receive training in the areas of research, teaching, and service. The small size of my lab provides ample opportunities for frequent collaboration and supervision on research and in clinical activities. In the initial stages of training, students receive extensive guidance in the development and conduct of research projects. As students demonstrate mastery of skills and progress through the graduate training program, they become more independent and transition into roles as junior colleagues. This model helps students establish the necessary skills for a career in academia, research hospitals, and clinical practice.
