Milwaukee Terrains

Curated by: Margaret Noodin, Rina Ghose, Lacey Michael Meyer, Alexandra Hamilton, and Susan Wade

The three maps presented together with a song in Anishinaabemowin represent views of Milwaukee as it became hostile terrain for some of the people, plants and animals of this space. For thousands of years the natural convergence of rivers created a basin and bay of exchange for life and ideas. Rapid colonization, settlement, and industrialization rendered parts of this space unfamiliar and unsafe. The living beings who never left represent resilience in hostile terrain.
