What is Father Inclusive Prenatal Care or FIPC?
FIPC is a new program to help fathers and mothers get ready for the transition to parenthood. This program is part of the Father Inclusive Prenatal Care Project – a collaboration between Rush University, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and various prenatal care clinics in Chicago.
What does this involve?
- Tips to boost communication skills
- Education for parents about newborn care
- Resources for education, employment, and other services
One size does not fit everyone: The FIPC model is flexible because different people need different sorts of support.
Who is eligible?
- Pregnant women between the ages of 17-25
- An expectant father between the ages of 18-29
- Both expectant parents must participate at the same time
- The program is free and open to all couples regardless of their immigration or insurance status.
- If a parent is under 18 years old, we will need to get their parent or legal guardian’s written consent
What are the incentives for participating?
Each parent can earn up to $230 for completing the FIPC program!
- $10 for each session they complete with a FIPC provider (up to 15 meetings) for a total of $150.
- $50 gift card for baby supplies per couple
- $25 gift card after attending the first meeting with our career development partner
- $30 gift card after completing an exit interview at the program graduation
Funding:
This project is supported by a grant from the Administration for Children and Families.
