Summary This is a video recording of a webinar that is part of the 2024 “AI in Libraries” series hosted by the CENL (Conference of European National Librarians). The speaker, Jean-Philippe Moreux, who is AI Head of Mission at the National Library of France (BnF), presents BnF’s AI roadmap and the in-house AI experimentation projects to address library staff needs as well as ongoing R&D projects. Example projects include applying image similarity techniques to enrich metadata and machine-aided cataloging on digitalized poster collections. Moreux also discusses the challenges of integrating AI within the institution, including legal and operational issues. In the discussion section, Moreux addresses rising tensions between BnF’s non-commercial reuse policy and the rise of generative AI, as private companies have aggressively harvested BnF content for model training, which is an issue the institution has yet to resolve. The video is freely and openly viewable through web browsers. The presentation slides are available via shared Google Slides. A link to the full “AI in Libraries” webinar series is also provided (see Link field).
