Summary Created by the Artificial Intelligence Working Group under ACT-IAC Emerging Technology Community of Interest, this playbook, useful to organizational leaders, managers, data professionals, acquisition and development teams, is a comprehensive guide for responsibly implementing and integrating AI technologies in an organization. It is structured around five phases of AI implementation and integration: 1) Problem Assessment: evaluates whether AI is appropriate for solving a problem in the organization. 2) Organizational Readiness: assess organization readiness in terms of skills, infrastructure, governance and risk management. 3) Solution Selection: conduct an investigation to choose the most suitable AI solution based on the organization’s need and groundwork laid in the previous phases. 4) AI Implementation: build, test and deploy the selected AI solution. 5) AI Integration: embed the AI solution into the organization’s existing infrastructure, operations, and workflows. Ethical and regulatory concerns are embedded throughout all five phases. For instance, the Problem Assessment phase includes defining ethical boundaries and assessing the risk of cognitive, cultural, and computational bias. The Implementation phase provides detailed guidance for bias testing, including evaluating team diversity, tool usability for data labeling, obtaining user consent, and ensuring inclusive data representation (e.g., across age and geographic lines).
