Summary This is the website of the Europeana Initiative, a collaborative effort that supports the digital transformation of the cultural heritage sector in Europe. It is led by three interlinked organizations: the Europeana Foundation, the Europeana Network Association, and the Aggregators’ Forum. Originating from a 2005 call by EU leaders for a European digital library, Europeana has grown into a key Digital Service Infrastructure (DSI) recognized by the European Commission. The Europeana website now provides access to over 55 million digital objects including books, music, artworks and more. The website offers 1) Learning resources to build the digital skills of cultural heritage professionals and support the reuse of cultural heritage data. 2) APIs and tools developed for cultural heritage professionals, educators, researchers and creatives to support the reuse of cultural heritage data. 3) information on projects funded by EU focusing on areas such as digitalization, technological innovation, reuse, and capacity building. 4) information about events in the Cultural Heritage Sector organized or supported by Europeana. A notable initiative featured on the site is the AI4Culture project, launched in October 2024. It provides a dedicated platform offering open-source AI tools, curated datasets, and upskilling resources to help cultural heritage institutions adopt and apply artificial intelligence. Recordings of a workshop series on applying AI to cultural heritage data are also available on the project page.
