Summary | The objective of this text is twofold: 1) to present a concise perspective on the past, present, and future of AI and 2) to explore ethics in practice relative to AI applications. While many publications have produced analyses of AI development, Floridi takes a unique approach by highlighting the “divorce between agency and intelligence”. By adopting this angle, the author clearly demonstrates the inverse relationship between AI efficacy and human autonomy. The second half of the text thus seeks to mitigate this divergence by exploring potential ethical stop gaps such as AI governance (Ch. 6) and considerations for environmental sustainability (Ch. 11, Ch. 12). |
