Summary | This article summarizes the six papers in a special issue of the Journal of the Australian Library and Information Association (JALIA) on AI and Robots for the Library and Information Professions. Recognizing the excitement around applying AI and robots in libraries, such as assisting resource classification, discovering, retrieval, teaching and learning, there are concerns regarding ethics, responsible design, and unsustainable use of energy to deploy AI. The concerns include user privacy, freedom of expression, bias, transparency, and autonomy. The six papers investigate ethical implications of AI in libraries, in both academic and non-academic settings. | |
