Summary With the development and deployment of variant AI tools, it is important for librarians to critically evaluate the benefits and challenges of AI tools. The American Libraries, which is the flagship magazine of the American Library Association (ALA), published this article to provide an environmental scan of how libraries have been applying AI. The article presents five cases. 1) Robots help youths building social-emotional skills at the Santa Ana public library. 2) Gwinnett County public schools have been offering AI-oriented curriculum. 3) AI Studio at the main library at Kansas State University in Manhattan provides technologies and programming to students and faculty. 4) Montana State University Library in Bozeman developed a tool to help librarians navigate ethical concerns about AI. 5) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library at San José State University applies AI chatbot for basic circulation and reference services. The cases span across public, school, and academic libraires, showcasing innovative uses of AI.
