Summary The authors of this article argue that digital literacy and information literacy are insufficient in equipping people the required awareness, understanding, and skills about ethical AI. Recognizing the gap, the authors propose “algorithmic literacy,” present a working definition, and provide a pedagogical strategy. The role of libraries in promoting algorithmic literacy is emphasized. This article is published in Information Technology and Libraries (ITAL), an open-access and peer-reviewed journal of the American Library Association’s Core Division. The journal publishes articles about technologies in libraries, engaging conversations among information professionals working in GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) communities, scholars, and students.
