Summary On October 12, 2023, the government of Canada launched a consultation paper. The paper presents Canadian’s opinions regarding generative AI tools and the implications for copyright. This article is a response to the consultation paper. Published by the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the response focuses on addressing topics that are particularly pertinent to research libraries. Specifically, the article discusses technical aspects of AI, authorship and ownership of AI generated works, text mining and data mining, as well as infringement and liability.
