In this pivotal role, I oversee the administration of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for all aspects of the UWM mission. My responsibilities extend far beyond service management; I am deeply involved in aligning teaching and learning initiatives with technology, ensuring that our digital learning environments are robust, secure, and tailored to the needs of our academic community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer the Canvas LMS and co-manage related Digital Learning Environment services, including Kaltura, Zoom, proctoring tools, and student response systems.
  • Lead strategic planning and project development to align instructional technology with teaching goals.
  • Serve as an Information Security specialist, ensuring the application of universal policies and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate support for digital learning tools across the university, advocating for the interests of teaching and learning at all levels of Information Technology.
  • Develop and enforce governance practices that address both IT and academic concerns, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of instructional support.

Special Projects and Achievements:

  • Launched and led the adoption of generative AI for teaching and learning, contributing to the development of infrastructure, policy, and security initiatives around this new technology.
  • Spearheaded the migration of all for-credit and non-credit courses from D2L Brightspace to Canvas, successfully managing risk assessment and mitigation across 13 schools and colleges.
  • Established the Teaching and Learning Support stakeholder group (TLS), creating a collaborative support framework that unites teaching, learning, and technology support staff across the university.

Web Developer

As a Web Developer, I played a crucial role in supporting the Universities of Wisconsin’s Content Management System (CMS) by developing and migrating websites to a new WordPress-based platform. As Interim Director, I led all teaching and learning technology activities at UW-Whitewater, ensuring continuity of service during the search for a new director. My responsibilities included managing staff, facilitating professional development, and representing the university in system-wide learning technology initiatives.

  • Managed the Learning Technology Center, overseeing instructional design, media development, and faculty consultation services.
