Research Thrust Areas

The Concrete Advancement Network (CAN) center conducts research focused on reducing the carbon footprint, enhancing the strength and durability of concrete, and examining materials and policies that drive the concrete industry. Leading research teams at UW-Milwaukee and Oregon State University, the center’s world-renowned faculty spearhead breakthroughs that enable member companies to develop innovative products and gain competitive advantages.

Phase One: Successful 2022 Planning Workshop

On January 31 and February 1 we hosted a workshop with over 100 attendees from industry, academia, trade organizations and government agencies. We had productive exchanges around ideas and needs for the proposed center.

The National Science Foundation presented compelling statistics. Industry members can leverage their research investment 23:1. They can also gain access to in-demand talent: 25% of center-trained students are hired by their member organizations.
