The boards of the Native American Literature Symposium and the Association for the Study of American Indian Literatures are pleased to welcome nominations for the 2021 Beatrice Medicine and Electa Quinney Awards. These awards highlight outstanding publications in the field of Indigenous studies.
The Beatrice Medicine Awards for Best Monograph and Best Essay emphasizes scholarly monographs and essays that are particularly well-crafted, argued, and timely pieces in the broad fields of Indigenous studies.
The Electa Quinney Award for Published stories seeks to highlight the work of story creators who continue the tradition of teaching through narratives often crossing the boundaries of genres, formats, and disciplines. To celebrate the dissemination of stories into spaces where they can be shared, all published stories qualify including small press and fine arts printing.
All nominated publications should carry a publication date within the calendar year 2020.
Past winners and members of the NALS and ASAIL Board are not eligible for these awards.
Please fill out the following form to submit a nomination. If you wish to nominate more than one piece, please fill out the form once for each nomination.
All nominations must be submitted by March 15, 2021.
