SHARP2 welcomes collaborations with students, researchers, and community organizations.
Student Opportunities
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students can gain invaluable research experience through the UWM SURF (Support for Undergraduate Research Fellows) opportunity. Please visit the SURF website to review the requirements and deadlines for the program, and reach out to Dr. Anderson via email (andersoa@uwm.edu) to book a meeting to discuss this opportunity in more detail.
Graduate Students
Graduate students have several opportunities to be involved in SHARP2 research. Firstly, if you need research practicum credits you can work with Dr. Anderson to assist on an on-going project or develop a research idea that is parallel to our on-going work. Research practicum credit hours can vary, but typically are a one semester course (with the expectation of continued collaboration opportunities following the practicum – e.g., development of scholarly presentations or peer-reviewed publications). Please Dr. Anderson (andersoa@uwm.edu) to set up a time to discuss your research practicum.
Another experience may be if you’re interested in joining the PhD program at UWM School of Nursing and would like to research perinatal outcomes or at-risk populations. Reach out to the PhD program director Dr. Julia Snethen (julia@uwm.edu) and Dr. Anderson (andersoa@uwm.edu) for more information about the program and to discuss your research interests.
Finally, future funded grants will have direct costs allocated to fund a graduate-level research assistant/project director. This is an opportunity to not only gain hands-on experience with many aspects of the grant process, but to also receive a stipend and/or tuition assistance. These roles are typically reserved for advanced PhD students in the UWM School of Nursing program, but additional collaboration opportunities may be available for others. Contact Dr. Anderson (andersoa@uwm.edu) for more information.
